05 – No Distractions, and Music First
In any club, venue, or music event, you’ll encounter a wide variety of people. Among them are:
- Those who are drunk.
- Those who are drugged.
- Those looking to meet boys or girls.
- Those attending because it’s mainstream or part of the hype.
- Those who just want to relax.
- Those who go to follow a friend.
- Those who know and appreciate how DJs work.
- Those who are DJs themselves.
- Those seeking new experiences.
- Those who are passionate about music.
At DJ Art Institution, we are not here to dictate what is right or wrong, nor to tell anyone how to live their lives. One of our core values is liberty—everyone is free to make their own choices. We are not here to judge. Instead, we are here to focus on what we believe in, just as others are free to do the same.
If drugs or heavy substance use suit your lifestyle, we’re not here to judge. However, we believe that true, lasting joy comes from something deeper.
Why We Believe in Music First
Everything that comes easy fades quickly and teaches us little. It doesn’t sustain us or feed our souls for eternity. At DJ Art Institution, we believe that hard work, live art, focus, dedication, and lifelong learning pay off. These qualities fuel themselves, creating a sustainable and enriching culture that supports the art of DJing and the beauty of music.
This is why we stand for Music First. We’re here to talk about our passion for music, to focus on the art itself, and to remove distractions that take away from its magic. Our goal is to create safe spaces where music is front and center, allowing everyone to connect, transcend, and truly feel the power of sound.
We believe nothing should take precedence over music itself and the DJ culture.
Building the Global Wall of Music Culture Together
Each of us is a brick in the wall of music culture, whether we’re DJs or music enthusiasts. Even the big bricks need smaller ones to fill in the gaps. Everyone matters, and as the saying goes, “everybody wants to be somebody.”
If we put ego above music, or elevate ourselves above the culture and others, it might bring short-term gains, but it won’t sustain in the long run.
Everything we do should be for the love of music and the DJ culture.
- If we create a seamless mix of songs, we feel we’ve contributed to the culture.
- If we compose an incredible tune, we know we’ve added to the legacy.
- If we perform a technical transition that wows the crowd, we’ve upheld the art.
But when we think we’re greater than the music or the DJ culture, it doesn’t last—it doesn’t pay off. We must always remember that we’re part of a bigger picture, and every contribution matters, no matter how big or small.
The Essentials: No Distractions, Just Music
At a club, we need just two decks, a proper sound system, smoke and lighting that follows the music, and a great DJ performing live, artistic mixes.
At a festival, we need an awe-inspiring stage, special effects, and DJs showcasing their tracks.
At a Turntablist performance, we need only the decks, live art, and an audience that understands the magic.
At DJ Art Institution, we focus on what truly matters: the music and the DJ culture. We don’t focus on distractions. Everything we do is driven by our passion for music and our commitment to the legacy of DJ artistry.
